St. Francois County Jail Roster

The St. Francois County Jail Roster is a public tool that allows anyone to check who is currently in custody at the county jail. In the state of Missouri, access to such information is guaranteed by the Sunshine Law. Through StFrancoisCourt.us, you can find publicly available information about current and recent inmates of the county. Additionally, information can be obtained on the official sheriff's website, in person at the facility's reception, or by phone. The St. Francois County Sheriff's Department maintains the roster, updating the data as new bookings and releases occur. It is posted on the sheriff's website and serves as a transparency tool—residents can see who is held in the local jail.

Search Current Inmates in St. Francois Jail

To find a person currently in custody at the county jail, use one of the methods below.

Online Search

  1. Go to StFrancoisCourt.us to access publicly available information about court records and bookings.
  2. Visit the Detention Information page on the sheriff's website—there is usually a list of individuals in custody.
  3. If the person has already been transferred to a state facility, use the Missouri Department of Corrections inmate search.
  4. To check arrests made by the highway patrol in the county, open the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrest reports.

You will need the person's full legal name (first and last name in Latin letters) for the search. A booking number speeds up the search but is not required. Some roster pages have a search field; if not, use the browser's Ctrl+F function to find the last name in the list.

Juvenile inmates are not displayed in the public roster.

By Phone

Call the jail directly and provide the person's full name. The operator will confirm or deny custody.

In Person

You can appear at the facility's reception during business hours and request information about an inmate.

Find St. Francois Jail Booking Records Online

A booking record is created at the moment a detained person is officially registered in jail. This process includes photographing, fingerprinting, and entering data into the system. Each record contains:

  • a unique booking number;
  • the date and time of registration;
  • a list of charges;
  • the name of the arresting agency;
  • basic identification details of the detainee (name, date of birth, gender).

These records can be found in several ways. The fastest is through the online roster on the sheriff's website, where records appear after the booking procedure is completed. If the record pertains to a case already in court, charge details can be checked on the Missouri Courts portal.

For more detailed information—such as a copy of the full arrest report—submit a written request for public records in accordance with RSMo § 610.023. The law requires the government agency to provide access to the open record or justify the refusal in writing, citing a specific legal provision. Send the request to the County Sheriff's Department.

Search the St. Francois Jail Roster by Last Name or Booking Number

The roster supports two main search methods.

Search by Last Name

Enter the last name in the search field or find it in the list using Ctrl+F. Adding the first name will narrow the results if the last name is common—such as "Smith" or "Johnson." A few practical tips:

  • Check the spelling—even one extra letter will hide the desired record.
  • Try spelling variations: hyphens, apostrophes, spaces in compound last names.
  • If the system allows partial search, enter the first few letters of the last name.

Search by Booking Number

If you have the booking number, enter it in the appropriate field. This is the most accurate method—it returns exactly one record.

If the Search Yields No Results

The absence of a record does not necessarily mean the person was not detained. Possible reasons:

  1. The booking procedure is not yet complete, and the data has not been entered into the system.
  2. The person has already been released on bail or by court decision.
  3. The name was entered incorrectly—try a different spelling.
  4. The arrest was made by another agency, and the person is held in another facility.

In any of these cases, the most reliable option is to call the jail directly.

Jail Roster Updates and Search Limitations in St. Francois

The roster is updated as jail staff enter new bookings and register releases. In practice, this means that between the actual arrest and the appearance of the record in the online roster, it can take from a few minutes to several hours—depending on shift workload and the complexity of the registration procedure.

It is important to understand a few limitations of this tool:

  • Publication Delay. If the arrest occurred late at night or on a weekend, the record may appear only on the next business day.
  • Disappearance of Records After Release. The roster only displays those currently in custody. After release or transfer, the record is usually removed from the list.
  • It Is Not an Archive. The roster does not store the history of all past bookings. To search for old records, submit a public records request to the sheriff or check the MACHS criminal history portal.
  • Data Entry Errors. Sometimes the name or date of birth is entered incorrectly, complicating the search.

If the person has been transferred to a state Department of Corrections facility, they will disappear from the county roster. In this case, use the MODOC inmate search. For federal jurisdiction cases, records are available through the PACER system of the Eastern District of Missouri.

The roster is a snapshot of the current situation, not an exhaustive database. It is useful for quick checks, but for a complete picture, an official request or call to the facility may sometimes be necessary.
